February Muster a Rousing Success
On February 23rd we held our monthly Muster & Mingle event at the lovely Tipp Center, located in Tipp City, OH. Veterans and their families enjoyed a pasta dinner while socializing with other veterans.
After dinner was over, we enjoyed a presentation from the Dayton VA. Gregory and Brandon spoke about the many programs they have available for veterans to get connected with their medical teams, as well as each other. An item of particular interest to all veterans present were the telephone Town Hall meetings that the VA has offered since 2016. Eligible veterans receive a ‘robo-call’ letting them know a time & place to call in, and during the calls, which last about an hour, veterans can ask question of Dayton VA leadership and doctors. If they are unable to speak during the call, the option is available to leave a message, so that someone can get back to them. Gregory also spoke about My VA Dayton, a weekly podcast that launched at the beginning of the year. It is a great way to listen in on the shared experiences of all veterans, and each episode is only about a half an hour long, so it’s an easy length to sit and listen to. Links are available at the end of this post!
After Gregory and Brandon had finished their presentation, our veterans weren’t done visiting! They shared success stories of Dayton VA care, encouraged other veterans present to push ahead with their claims, and swapped a ‘back in my day’ story (or two!). It was a great evening with our veterans, and we are excited for our March Muster & Mingle, a family-friendly art event, hosted at the Troy-Miami County Library on Thursday March 31.
