Muster & Mingle Invites Veterans In
On Wednesday October 25, we gathered at the Tipp Center to share a meal and learn more about the Invite-A-Vet Foundation. We enjoyed a meal donated from City Barbeque on Miller Lane, and everyone enjoyed the smoked chicken and pulled pork, along with several kinds of barbeque sauce, green beans, and macaroni & cheese. After everyone had eaten their fill, Tamara shared some announcements of upcoming events around the county and announced a giveaway we are doing in partnership with the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy, We have several sets of tickets to give away to the Movie Magic – Music of John Williams performance on Veteran’s Day, Saturday November 11th. We will giving them away via lottery drawing, so interested veterans should reach out to us at (937) 570-6460. We’ll announce the winners on November 8th.
Marian Montgomery joined us for Muster & Mingle to share about the Invite A Vet Foundation. She began the foundation as a tribute to her dad, Staff Stg. Richard L. Webster Sr, who passed away in 2014. He served this country for 20 years in the United State Air Force, retiring in 1972. She loved the entertainment that the USO provides to active duty service members, and wanted to bring something similar to veterans. They host several events a year, with the Each One Teach One breakfasts and evening talks being the most impactful for veterans in the Miami Valley. They also hold a bi-annual gala, a wonderful evening event, free for veterans, at the Air Force Museum.
While Marian was speaking to the adults, Tamara and the kids in attendance snuck away for a fun craft. They made Halloween themed sensory bottles, full of all kinds of creepy things like eyeballs, cockroaches, and spiders.
Everyone who attended had a wonderful time, and we are all really looking forward to our next event in Tipp City, our 2nd Annual Open Mic Night & Carry In. We provide the meat and sweets, and ask veterans to bring a dish and story to share. Sharing is voluntary, not compulsory, so we won’t pressure you!
