Easter eggs

Pancakes, Sunshine, and the Easter Bunny!

Saturday April 1 was our 2nd Annual Easter Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt. We experienced some rather intense weather the night before, so we were a little apprehensive about holding our egg hunt on the grounds of Chaney-Graef-Pitsenbarger VFW Post 4874 in Piqua. The military has taught all of us to be flexible in uncertain times, so we made a plan for an indoor hunt, fired up our griddles, and hoped for the best!

Families began coming in right at 9:00, and were happy to see fresh pancakes, sausage, and apple slices, a sweet treat that was donated by Scott Family McDonalds. We had a table full of craft activities, coloring pages, and treat bags, for the kids to decorate while we waited for the hunt to begin at 11:00. The Easter Bunny joined us around 9:30, and the kids were delighted to see them! We set the Easter Bunny up in a comfy chair and the kids took turns sitting for a photo. The Bunny made sure to give each of them a toy.

Then we had a great surprise! Maggie from CampmulliDC Rabbitry, a veteran’s daughter herself, stopped by with some live bunnies for the kids to enjoy. The volunteers took advantage of the distraction and went outside to hide the eggs, knowing that some more icky weather was on the way. While the kids played a few rounds of Musical Chairs, all the eggs (over 1500!) we laid out, ready to be scooped up by an excited youngster.

Once all the eggs had been gathered, the kids played a few more rounds of musical chairs while we drew names for the raffle baskets. We had a wide variety of baskets, thanks to great partners in the community! If you are able, please patronize these businesses as a way to say ‘Thank You’ for helping us to have such a great event! Advance Auto, AutoZone, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, Great Clips and RPets. Thank you to Scott Family McDonalds for donating apple slices, and to Texas Roadhouse for donating Free Kids Meal coupons for each child who came!
