Snow Cones & School Supplies
For the past several years, Operation Veteran and Caregiver Support has partnered with Operation Homefront to host a school supply giveaway. On Saturday, August 6, Operation Veteran and Caregiver Support, with help from some volunteers from Greenville Federal and the National Guard, passed out school supplies at WACO Air Museum in Troy.
We were setting up in the rain, which made us a little concerned for our turnout, but we kept our spirits high. In the end, we helped over 80 kids get their school supplies for the upcoming school year! WACO was an excellent host, and the red barn was the perfect place to host our event. The red barn is an 1856 barn that was relocated to the WACO property in 1997. Several families who came had never heard of the museum before, so we were happy to have been able to help spread awareness for the great history that is housed in that building! The highlight of the event, at least for the children in attendance, was certainly the snow cones. We were so happy to have Snow Show Snow Cones with us for the event, passing out snow cones to the families that came through. Snow Show is owned by a teacher at Tipp City High School, and he was an amazing partner for us for this event.
We want to extend a special thank you to Troy VFW Post 5436, who gave us a generous donation in order to be able to hold this event. In years past, we wouldn’t have been able to hold such a large event, but the post reached out to help us in a big way. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to hold this distribution event, which allowed us to reach far more families than ever before!
Fall is always a busy time of the year for Operation Veteran and Caregiver Support, so please be sure to check out our Upcoming Events page to see what we have coming up!
