A Shared Mission Brings Veterans Together
On Wednesday, May 28th, Operation Veteran and Caregiver Support hosted our Muster & Mingle event at the Tipp Center in Tipp City, OH. It was a wonderful evening of community, connection, and gratitude.

We were treated to a delicious meal generously donated by Mission BBQ in Miamisburg. The menu included pulled pork, shredded chicken, mac & cheese, baked beans with brisket, coleslaw, and homemade peach cobbler for dessert. Drinks were kindly provided by the Tipp Center staff. After a few announcements from our Director, Valerie, dinner was blessed, and the chow line opened—many went back for seconds!
A Visit from Mission BBQ’s Cheryl
After dinner, we welcomed Cheryl, Community Ambassador for the Miamisburg Mission BBQ location. Cheryl shared the inspiring story behind the company, which opened its doors on September 11, 2011, with the mission to honor our country’s heroes—veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders.
As a military parent herself, Cheryl spoke about how meaningful it is to work for a company that lives its mission daily. At every Mission BBQ, operations pause at noon each day to play the National Anthem, and on select days throughout the year, it’s performed live. Cheryl also shared details about the restaurant’s special events, including free meals for veterans and service members during the week leading up to Armed Forces Day and Veterans Day.
Cards of Encouragement for Roger and Jerry
To close the evening, we created cards for two cherished members of our Muster & Mingle community:
- Roger, a long-time attendee and our unofficial “Welcome Wagon,” is recovering at home after a hospital stay. Roger has always gone out of his way to greet new attendees and make them feel part of the group. We wanted him to know he’s missed and appreciated.
- Jerry and Regina, who have joined us over the years, are navigating a difficult chapter as Jerry transitions to Hospice care due to cancer. Our community came together to send them both strength, love, and encouragement.
