Campfires, Connection, and Community at Veteran Campout Weekend
Operation Veteran & Caregiver Support was proud to partner with Poor Farmer’s Campground for a weekend dedicated to fellowship, relaxation, and community during our Veteran Campout Weekend in Fletcher.
Throughout the weekend, veterans and their families enjoyed a full lineup of activities designed to bring people together and create lasting memories. Friday evening kicked off with karaoke hosted by Bill Miller, launching the 2026 Krazyoke Contest, along with KUW Wrestling at the Coachmen Shelter. Saturday brought a steady flow of community favorites including an ice cream breakfast with donuts, waffles, cereal, and toppings (ice cream generously donated by Ullery’s), a cornhole tournament, candy bar bingo, and live music from Steven “Crash” Worley.
Operation Veteran & Caregiver Support also provided nearly all of the food and supplies for the weekend’s activities, including breakfast items and candy bars for bingo, helping ensure guests could simply show up and enjoy the experience without worry.
Beyond the scheduled events, some of the most meaningful moments happened in the in-between spaces — conversations around campfires, kids playing together, veterans sharing stories, and families enjoying time outdoors away from the pace of everyday life.
On Saturday evening, we provided dinner for attendees, serving grilled pork chops, baked beans, chips, and salad to veterans and their families gathered throughout the campground. As always, sharing a meal together became one of the simplest and most meaningful parts of the weekend.
Events like this are a reminder that support does not always happen inside an office or during a formal meeting. Sometimes it happens around picnic tables, campfires, music, laughter, and conversations between people who understand one another’s experiences.
Operation Veteran & Caregiver Support is thankful to Poor Farmer’s Campground for helping create such a welcoming environment for our veteran families, as well as everyone who donated time, food, entertainment, and support throughout the weekend. We look forward to continuing opportunities that bring veterans and caregivers together in meaningful and restorative ways.
