Collaborative Art Brings Veterans Together

Our August 26th Muster & Mingle brought veterans and their families together for an evening filled with good food, conversation, creativity, and a little friendly competition.

We started the evening with our director sharing announcements about upcoming events and opportunities in the community. Then it was time for the important business of the evening: building the ultimate baked potato! Potatoes were piled high with toppings as everyone competed to create their own masterpiece. a baked potato bar, giving everyone the chance to build their own perfect potato with chili, cheese, sour cream, onions, salsa, and green onions. One of our veterans, Tia, brought a delicious corn casserole to share with everyone, and we rounded out the meal with a fresh garden salad and cookies for dessert.

Once dinner was finished, the group shifted from food to creativity. Veterans worked together on a collaborative art project, creating something as a group while enjoying more conversation and time together. They also had the opportunity to create their own vision and mood boards using a collection of donated creative supplies. With magazine cuttings, stickers, stamps, and other materials, each person created a board reflecting their own ideas, interests, goals, and inspiration.

Muster & Mingle is about creating a space where veterans can come together, share a meal, make connections, and simply enjoy time with people who understand the value of community. Whether we’re building an outrageous baked potato or creating something together, every gathering is another opportunity to connect.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to Tia for sharing her delicious corn casserole, and to everyone who donated supplies that helped make our creative activities possible. We can’t wait to see what we create—and eat—at the next one! To see where you can find us next, check out our Upcoming Events page by clicking here.
