A Full House of Laughter
On Tuesday May 7, we gathered at the Activity Center at the Miami County YMCA for our Muster & Mingle. Although the evening started out a little dicey with the weather, the sun came out just as we started the festivities. Dinner was shredded chicken sandwiches, green beans, and pasta salad (from Sunset Meat Market). Our Director Valerie started off with some announcements for those gathered, all the upcoming events and needed information. She also talked about the trip she just took to Washington DC, where she was working on advocating with the VA.
After her announcements, dinner was served. We certainly had a full house, and for the first time, were scared we would run out of food. Everyone filled their plate and settled in for some fellowship with friends old and new. After a bit of time for chatting, we welcomed Justin Thompson to the ‘stage’. A veteran himself, Justin enjoys getting out into the comedy scene as a way to escape and unwind from his ‘real’ job, He certainly had our veterans laughing with a mix of personal anecdotes and stories shared from fellow veterans.
After Justin had finished his set, we repeated what is quickly becoming a Piqua Muster & Mingle tradition by gathering our female veterans for a photo. While the size of this group fluctuates, we love honoring our ladies this way! It’s always nice to have new faces for this photo, and this month we had three!
After our photo, we sang happy birthday to Larry Lamb, who had his 79th birthday on April 2nd, which would’ve been our last Muster & Mingle. However, that event was cancelled out of concern for weather, so we had cake and ice cream for him that night. If you would like to join us for Muster & Mingle, or any of our community events, check out our Upcoming Events page to see where we’ll be!
