Bingo Brings the Fun….Again!

On Tuesday October 1st we gathered again at the Miami County YMCA Activity Center. We had some new faces in the crowd, and soon the room was filled with conversation and laughter. After some announcements about upcoming events, everyone filled up on meatball subs, salad, and homemade brownies. We had planned on having a guest speaker, but since they had been battling illness, we brought back a favorite event, Bingo! We played for about an hour and half with a storm raging over our heads. It was fun and cozy being inside, playing games and laughing as a group while the rain poured down. Finally, the storm clouds broke and everyone reluctantly headed home.

Evenings like this one remind us of one of our biggest strengths as an organization, adapting and overcoming. We could’ve taken the loss of our guest speaker as an opportunity to cancel. Or just served dinner and sent everyone home. However, we know the value of these evenings gathered with other veterans. We know that it’s not just a free dinner for those who take the time to join us. It’s a reminder that they have value and that they are cared about. It’s a chance for them to check on their friends and be held accountable too. We are so thankful for the opportunity to create spaces like this, as well as be a witness to the relationships that are being built.
