Bunny Breakfast Brings Big Smiles

On Saturday March 16 we hosted our third annual Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt in conjunction with Chaney-Graef-Pistsenbarger VFW Post 4874 Auxiliary. Although the morning was chilly, our favorite pancake makers, Board Treasurer Kayleen West and her husband Navy veteran Darin, got right to work. Our Director of Development was busy cooking the donated sausage patties, and soon the post was filled with the smells of breakfast and the chatter of excited volunteers.

Just before the doors opened, Maggie and her son David with Campmulli DC Rabbitry arrived with the guests who would end up being the stars of the day, the live bunnies! Maggie is a veteran’s daughter herself, and she brought a bunny to our event last year as well. This year we decided to really lean in to the live bunnies and built a photo booth around them. This turned out to be a great idea as we had no tears from our littlest guests who wouldn’t want to sit with the Easter Bunny.

The morning was happily spent making crafts, eating LOTS of pancakes, and playing with bunnies. Our volunteers headed outside to lay eggs, and the sun was shining so brightly! The egg hunting areas were marked, the eggs were quickly scattered, and our volunteers headed back inside to watch the fun as we started musical chairs! DJ Marrs generously donated prizes for this friendly competition, and we had a round for each age group.

After musical chairs were over, we had a last call for bunny pictures and cuddles before we headed outside to begin the hunt! We age-divided the hunts so that everyone got a fair shot. 0-3 went first, followed by our 4-6, then 7-8, and 9+. Everyone had a great time and left with lots of goodies!

This year’s event was a great time, and we have a few partners to thank. Scott Family McDonalds and Danone USA donated apple slices and yogurt for breakfast and Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop in Troy donated treats for our raffle. Doug Fosnight Photography spent the morning snapping almost 600 photos for us, and you can find the complete gallery, broken down into smaller albums here. You can order prints & other items via that site if you would like. All purchases are done through SmugMug, we don’t see any proceeds from those sales.
