Three Times a Charm for Golf!

On Friday August 25th we hosted our 3rd Annual Golf Scramble at Echo Hills Golf Club in Piqua. Despite a very humid start, by the time we teed off at 9:00, the day had turned beautiful. Registration opened at 8:00, with the putting green seeing lots of use. For those that didn’t need to grease up their joints, we had a wonderful breakfast spread that was donated by Panera. Bagels, muffins, and of course….COFFEE! We are so grateful for the continued partnership with Covelli Enterprises, who we have worked with for over 4 years.

After a few words from course manager Patrick and our Director of Development Tamara Hegi, golf was underway! We did a shotgun start, with 2 teams on 11 and 18. We had 2 volunteers on hole 15, manning our Double or Nothing hole. The morning passed quickly, with golfers passing past the clubhouse getting free waters and their 50/50 tickets. One of our newest volunteers Donna did a great job encouraging golfers to participate in the drawing!

After about 3 hours, we had our first teams coming in, and by 1:00, everyone was done! Lunch was a delicious spread from City Barbeque, with our golfers getting to choose from pulled pork or smoked turkey, green beans and mac & cheese. Everyone enjoyed conversation and AC while they ate their lunch. Our Director Valerie Mullikin, along with our Board President Mel Shane, shared with our golfers about Operation Veteran and Caregiver Support before beginning to draw for our door prizes. We had over a dozen door prizes, including some generously donated by some of our golfers that day! After our door prizes were announced, we did our special prizes, 2 Longest Drive and 2 Closest to the Pin. Our team winners caused some heartache with an impressive 4 way tie for third!

We had an amazing event this year, with wonderful volunteers and golfers. The golf scramble is our biggest fundraiser of the year, with 100% of the money raised going back to the veterans in the Miami Valley, through one of our 30 events a year or by stocking the shelves in our need-based food pantry. We want to take a moment to thank our sponsors, without whom we wouldn’t be able to do what we do!

    Congratulation on outing success!
Just so you know, I just sent as message to Mel suggesting that your outing fits perfectly with our USA Patriots Veteran Golf Circuit, held each year since 2017, to raise funds for numerous Greater Dayton veterans’ causes/organizations. Our Dayton Warriors Softball Fund hosted the USA Patriots Amputee Softball Team at WSU starting back in 2016 to raise funds for Fisher Houses (WPAFB & Dayton VA), Honor Flight-Dayton, and others. Our Veteran Golf Circuit is merely joint marketing for veteran-centric golf outings and there is no cost to market together with us. In addition, our circuit sponsors become YOUR sponsors…primarily for raffle prizes.
There is simply no downside. Happy to discuss further.
