Aloha, Veterans!
Our latest Muster & Mingle brought a little bit of island sunshine to the Miami Valley with a tropical luau celebration filled with laughter, friendship, great food, and plenty of aloha spirit!
Guests arrived dressed in their tropical best, with colorful shirts, leis, and big smiles ready for a fun evening together. From the moment everyone walked through the doors, it felt like we had stepped away from the everyday and into a little island getaway. Music from Don Ho and Elvis filled the room, conversations flowed freely, and veterans, caregivers, families, and friends spent the evening reconnecting and building new friendships.
Summer is typically a slower season for Muster & Mingle attendance, but our community proved once again how special these gatherings are. More than 60 people joined us for the evening — making it one of our best-attended summer events yet!
The Tipp Center helped transform the space with beautiful floral centerpieces that brought the feeling of the islands right to our tables. Every guest had a lei waiting for them when they arrived, and everyone went home with a special goodie bag so they could take home a little taste of the islands after the evening came to an end.
Of course, no luau would be complete without incredible food! Guests enjoyed a delicious island-inspired dinner featuring Huli Huli chicken served over red rice and farro, fruit salad with options both with and without coconut, and pineapple upside-down cake for dessert.
The Tipp Center also created a special Aloha Punch featuring pineapple, orange, and mango flavors, complete with fresh fruit guests could use as a garnish. It was such a hit that people were keeping a close eye on the pitcher — and there may have even been a little friendly competition over the very last glass!
Our community members also helped make the evening extra special by sharing their own homemade creations. George Jewell baked his very first red velvet cake — an impressive four-layer masterpiece that was enjoyed by everyone. Sue brought an assortment of deviled eggs (the bacon-topped ones were an instant favorite!) along with delicious coconut and pecan cookies. These thoughtful contributions are just another example of the generosity and camaraderie that make our Muster & Mingle gatherings so meaningful.
After sharing announcements about upcoming events — including the Miami County Fair, THREE upcoming school supply distributions, our car show, and other opportunities to connect — everyone gathered around the tables to enjoy a wonderful meal and even better company. There was plenty of food, plenty of laughter, and plenty of stories shared throughout the evening.
For the first time ever, we also captured a group photo of everyone who attended! Seeing all those smiling faces together was a wonderful reminder of the incredible community that continues to grow around our veterans, caregivers, and supporters.
A huge mahalo to everyone who helped make this evening possible — from those who planned, decorated, cooked, baked, donated, attended, and shared their time with others. Events like Muster & Mingle are about so much more than a meal; they are about connection, belonging, and making sure our veterans and caregivers know they are never alone.
