A Perfect Summer Evening of Connection

There is something special about gathering together, sharing a meal, and simply enjoying the company of others. Our most recent Muster & Mingle was a wonderful reminder of what community is all about — connection, camaraderie, and creating a place where veterans and caregivers know they belong.

On a beautiful summer evening, veterans, caregivers, families, and friends gathered at the park for a relaxed carry-in dinner filled with great food, laughter, and conversation. The weather could not have been more perfect, providing the ideal backdrop for an evening of fellowship and fun.

Our tables were overflowing with homemade favorites from our incredible community. Guests brought an amazing variety of dishes, including pasta salads, baked beans, fruit trays, strawberry trifle, and so much more. We provided the burgers and hot dogs, and together we created a meal that felt less like an event and more like a family gathering.

One of the best parts of Muster & Mingle is seeing the connections that happen around the table. Veterans who may have never met before have the opportunity to share stories, caregivers find others who understand their experiences, and families build friendships in a welcoming environment.

After dinner, the fun continued with games and activities for all ages. Veterans enjoyed friendly competition with cornhole, giant Yardzee, and Connect 4, while the kids enjoyed the evening with bubble wands, laughter, and plenty of space to play. It was a simple evening — but sometimes the simplest moments create the strongest memories.

We were especially excited to welcome some new faces to this month’s gathering. Every new veteran, caregiver, and family member who walks through our doors becomes part of the Operation Veteran & Caregiver Support community.

Muster & Mingle is about more than a meal or an event. It is about building relationships, reducing isolation, and creating opportunities for veterans and caregivers to connect with others who understand. It is a reminder that support is not just about resources — it is also about community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed food, joined us, played games, shared conversations, and helped make this evening such a success. Your involvement helps us continue creating spaces where veterans, caregivers, and their families feel welcomed, valued, and supported.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our next Muster & Mingle! For more info on where you can find us next, check out our Upcoming Events page by clicking here!
