CVA Amplifies Veteran Voices
On Wednesday June 26th, we hosted our Muster and Mingle at the Tipp Center in Tipp City. Our guests for the evening were the Concerned Veterans for America, a grassroots organization committed to building veteran voices at the national level. CVA delivers people-empowering solutions rooted in liberty-based principles to tackle issues Americans face. By elevating veterans’ unique perspectives and trusted leadership, CVA builds engaged communities of veterans and activists equipped to inspire action, amplify concerned voices, and help improve American lives.
They brought us Marco’s pizza and drinks, and after some announcements by our Director Valerie, everyone dug in. There was every flavor choice imaginable, from Hawaiian to Meat Lovers. Everyone was able to get their fill!
After dinner and some lively conversation, David Fitzgerald from North Carolina addressed the group. A veteran himself, he spoke passionately about his role in the passing of the Mission Act, a law ensuring veterans access to community based care in order to avoid excessive wait times at the VA. He works with veterans in the mountains of North Carolina, and those veterans receive care at a VA that is over 2 hours away. He made sure that all the veterans present knew about the requirements of access to care. They are eligible for community care if their drive to a VA is longer than 30 minutes for primary or mental health care and 60 minutes for specialty care. He also talked about wait times, 20 days for primary or mental health care and 28 days for specialty care. He took some questions from the crowd, and made sure that everyone had his information before leaving.
